- Working principle of top packer
To set the top packer, a setting ball is dropped, filling the string with completion fluid. Sequential shearing of pins occurs as pressure is applied, advancing the upper gauge ring. This movement disengages the locking mechanism, causing the rubber cylinder to undergo radial elastic deformation, thereby achieving setting.
During radial expansion, the rubber cylinder experiences axial displacement. Once the retainer ring's shear pin shears, the slip cage and upper cone mobilize, with the lower cone anchored, thus activating and extending the slip to set the packer. Post bleed-off, the check ring maintains component positions, preventing retraction.
Service tool working principle
The sand-control string carries the top packer within the well. Setting occurs by dropping a ball into the drill pipe, actuating the built-in shield module and piston. The packer is easily released through hydraulic or mechanical methods, allowing the service tool's retrieval post-completion.
Retrieving principle
To retrieve the packer, deploy the specialized retrievable tool to interface with the top packer. Once positioned, elevate the retrievable tool to shear the support sleeve pin while engaging the packer's left-hand thread with the elastic claw, facilitating the drilling tool's lift and packer recovery.
