STARSE SASP SWELLABLE PACKER

SASP Swellable Packer is a patented tool researched and designed based on the rubber swelling performance, where the rubber will automatically swell in the presence of oil, water, or hybrid liquid to realize annulus sealing.

It could be used in open hole and cased hole cementing or completion, to assist in cementing, water/mud zone isolation, or poor physical property zone isolation, which can realize zonal isolation or zonal production. It's a kind of simpler, safer, and more reliable down-hole tool.

Design Principle

The SASP packer is mainly made from polymer and elastic material, the polymer will swell by absorbing water or oil molecules of the liquid, which will make the elastic material swell in place. The swell packer made by STARSE will be swelled to 2 times of original size by absorbing the hydrocarbon in the oil and gas wells, realizing annulus sealing.

In order to avoid the swell packer starting to expand before the operation is completed, retardant materials are added into the base rubber, which will give 3 days or as required (by client) for a safe operation.

The clamps at both ends of the SASP are very important parts that influence the performance of the packer. It stops the rubber swelling along the axis, increases the differential pressure capability, and at the same time prevents the packer from damage during RIH.

Swelling Properties
Water-swellable rubber	The higher the temperature, the faster the expansion speed. The thicker the rubber cylinder, the better the expansion effect; The longer the rubber length, the better the sealing effect; Expansion time 1-3 weeks; The higher the salinity, the slower the expansion speed; Water or water-based mud.
Oil-swellable rubber	The higher the temperature, the faster the expansion speed. SMART EXPANSION MATERIAL

Use oil-based, water-based, or mixed trigger elastomers, which automatically expand when encountering oil, water, or specific well fluids without mechanical or hydraulic activation. The expansion rate can be customized to adapt to different wellbore gaps (such as open hole or cased well).

ADAPTIVE SEAL

It can still form a high-pressure seal in complex well conditions (such as irregular well walls, corroded or worn casings) to effectively isolate the production layer. After expansion, it fits the well wall, reduces the risk of micro-annulus, and improves the reliability of interlayer isolation.

HIGH TEMPERATURE AND HIGH PRESSURE RESISTANCE

Designed for high temperature (up to 150°C+) and high pressure (10,000 psi+) environments to meet the needs of deep wells and unconventional oil and gas reservoirs. The elastomer remains stable under extreme conditions to avoid degradation or failure.

SIMPLIFIED OPERATION

It can be lowered in one trip with other completion tools (such as screens and sliding sleeves), saving drilling time and reducing operational risks. No additional sealing tools are required to reduce human operating errors.
