- Working Principle of Top Packer
The setting process is initiated by dropping a setting ball and filling the string with completion fluid. Hole pressure shears out corresponding pins in sequence, prompting the upper gauge ring to move. This movement unlocks a special locking mechanism, causing the rubber cylinder to compress and undergo radial elastic deformation, achieving a secure set.
As the rubber cylinder undergoes axial displacement during radial expansion, the shear pin of the retainer ring is cut. This action pushes the slip cage and upper cone into motion, while the lower cone remains fixed. Consequently, the upper and lower cones draw towards each other, activating the slip, extending it, and setting the packer. After bleed-off in the string, the check ring prevents retraction, ensuring the packer remains securely set.
Service Tool Working Principle
The top packer is deployed alongside the sand-control string. It is set by dropping a ball into the drill pipe, which opens the built-in shield module and pushes the piston. The packer is released through hydraulic or mechanical means, allowing for reverse release. After completion, the packer service tool is expertly retrieved.
Retrieving Principle
Should the need arise to retrieve the packer, a special retrieval tool is run to enter the top packer. Once in position, the retrieval tool lifts to shear the pin on the support sleeve. Concurrently, the elastic claw of the retrieval tool engages the left-hand thread on the packer body, enabling the lifting of the drilling tool and facilitating the efficient retrieval of the packer.
