- Working principle of top packer
The process begins with dropping a setting ball and filling the string with completion fluid, applying hole pressure to sequentially shear out corresponding pins. This activates the upper gauge ring's movement, unlocking a unique locking mechanism. Consequently, the rubber cylinder undergoes squeezing, resulting in radial elastic deformation to achieve setting.
During radial expansion, the rubber cylinder also experiences axial displacement. As the retainer ring's shear pin is cut, the slip cage and upper cone are propelled into motion. The lower cone, being fixed, allows the upper and lower cones to move towards each other. This activates the slip, extending it, and achieving packer setting. Post bleed-off, the check ring secures the component, ensuring it remains steadfastly set.
Service tool working principle
Deployed alongside the sand-control string, the top packer is set by dropping a ball into the drill pipe, thus opening the built-in shield module and activating the piston. Release of the packer is achieved hydraulically or mechanically, and the packer service tool is subsequently retrieved upon task completion.
Retrieving principle
For packer retrieval, a special retrievable tool is introduced to access the top packer. Upon reaching position, the retrievable tool is lifted to shear the support sleeve's pin. Concurrently, its elastic claw engages with the left-hand thread on the packer body, allowing for the drilling tool to be lifted and the packer efficiently retrieved.
